Your email about "Raising the bar" just landed in my inbox moments ago. Thanks for the nudge!

And this post ties right into that message. If you want to raise the bar on your emotional well being and your self-worth, make sure you're singin' a happy tune! :)

Hello Ladies,
I came to this discussion reading -and loving- the books of Anne George. I am in Florida for vacation and I am reading the last books. And due to Ms. George I got a little familiar with the Southern Living. And yes, I want to visit Birmingham to have a look at Vulcanus.

My question is :
No white shoes after Labor day = first of may. Why?
No patent leather shoes after five o clock afternoon. Why?
No velvet after Easter. Yes, this looks ridiculous.
I would really appreciate to get some information about this.

Greetings from Juliana from Germany who would never go to a wedding without a hat before 5 pm. Long dresses requested after 5 pm.

And no hand kiss outside a house by gentlemen :)

What a warm and fuzzy message, Martha! I have children, too, and I loved hearing your story about Facebook and Ben. Pat yourself on the back, kiddo! You've raised a mature, responsible, positive-thinking adult.

Your tips on self-talk are POSITIVELY super!

The title of this post caught my eye.

My mother is a Southern Bell from Savannah Georgia. So I grew up with those traditions. You know, Easter bonnets and mam.

Now when it came to white we could wear winter white. It is off white.

Some times it is almost feels daring to break with those old handed down traditions. But when it comes to manners...those are traditions that seem to carry some weight. They are a form of caring, communication and respect. It seems that more and more good manners are flying out the door. Mam would seem out of place in different parts of the country, but the idea of respecting our parents and our elders most certainly isn't.

Did you have to wear patent leathers in the summer and not in the winter?

Wanda, that's funny! Black is a whole other can of worms. You have to be a certain "age" to wear all black! Haha! What can I say? I was raised on old southern traditions!
