Twice As Fast

by Martha on March 30, 2010

Why do we like things “twice as?”

Twice as fast, twice as nice, and twice as pretty all have a good ring to them.  You think of things being better than expected.  Twice as good.

How about twice as hard?  Do we like that one as well?  We usually hear about successful people who have worked twice as hard as their competitors.  And the result?  They are twice as successful?  Usually.

I’ve got a short story for you today.  Inspiring.  About twice as hard and twice as fast.

It’s from my mother. Manyof you that read this blog already know about my Mom. A very inspiring individual.

Quick update. . . . .

She fell twice last year and broke each hip.  Each time, having to recuperating in a nursing home.  Not a place she necessarily likes to be.

Well, on my last visit to her, I was commenting on her speedy recovery and really fast return to her assisted living apartment.

She looked at me, with a twinkle in her eye and a sly grin on her face, and said, “You know how I did it?”

I assumed she had followed doctor’s orders, and her quick recovery was because of her great gene pool.

That wasn’t it!

She told me that every morning she had worked with a physical therapist.  Then, in the afternoons, the nurses would roll her into the lobby/TV room in a wheelchair to while away the hours.  Sitting, day in and day out. After a couple of days of that, she said enough!

My Mother started going to physical therapy in the afternoons also.  She said she decided that working twice as hard just might get her out twice as fast!

And she was right!

Give it up for my 88 year old Mom.  The woman IS an inspiration!

Peace,

-Martha
