Anybody like gardening?
I grew up in a household where my Daddy always had a huge vegetable garden. He would plant all sorts of food for our family of five. Corn, squash, green beans, lettuce, cucumbers, you name it. . . . it was out there!
We always had plenty of harvest. Not only to keep for ourselves but more than enough to share with neighbors and friends as well!
Daddy’s garden was really a wonderful sight to behold. A thing of beauty. Really. Lush and full and lovely!
I tried to grow a garden once. It was a complete failure.
Why? Well, I dug in the soil, became one with the earth and all that good stuff. Planted the seeds. Watered it. . . a little. Let the sun shine on it. But, otherwise, did nothing else to it. Just expected it to become lovely and lush like Daddy’s.
We all have a garden. We are all growing something. If you have an idea, you have a garden. Whatever you are growing (your idea), has to take root, be cultivated (gain knowledge), produce a harvest (your end goal) and then be shared (your contribution to the world).
And here’s the interesting part: You have to tend your garden. Nobody will do it for you. Oh yes, you may have help along the way. Even farmers have plows, fertilizer, and even other people to help them. But, when it’s all said and done, you are in charge of the end result of your garden.
There are many things that go into producing a great garden. Action has to be taken along the way. Weeds have to pulled, pruning back has to take place, weather and insects have to be dealt with. I failed to take those action steps and the result was no harvest.
What are you growing in your garden? Do you have a great idea that has taken root but you have let it die? Do you have a business that needs some TLC? Are you raising a family and you have neglected a thing or two?
Pay attention to what you are “growing”. Tend your garden. The rewards will be multiplied and you will be able to share with the world!
Peace,
Martha

What a perfect analogy!
This hits home for two reasons…#1 I love gardening! The entire process from start to finish is so rewarding to me. ( I particularly love to eat the rewards in February during a deep freeze) and
#2 the analagy of gardening and business makes perfect sense. It does require careful tending of all aspects in order to reap great rewards. Many times I’ve planted seeds and not watered and weedednever mind harvesting enough to share. NO more. I’m taking up master gardening from here on out.
This will stay with me a long time. Many thanks, Martha.
